Home Retreat

By agsite | May 27, 2010

Home retreats, there is nothing like a retreat in your own home or backyard.  They can be refreshing, stimulating, and inexpensive.

Turn a room, an area of your back or side yard into a retreat.  Just imagine colorful potted plants, shrubs,  and perhaps trees surrounding your bench; and perhaps a small table for two or a hammock.

Now take your favorite book or music, place yourself in your bench or chair and enjoy being away from home in your private home retreat.

Organic Gardening

By agsite | May 27, 2010

Organic gardening echo the words “better safe than sorry”.  Using natural products for all garden needs, but especially for edible gardening is the best way to go.

First, stop using the chemicals.  Second, thing to do is amend the soil, at the very least mix in compost.  The third thing you can do, start using natural fertilizers, disease and pest controls for all your plantings.  To retain moisture, nourish the soil, and reduce weeds; mulch about three inches thick.  And a fifth step, plant beneficial companion plants in your garden that can repel harmful pest and enhance the rewards of  implementing an organic gardening program.  The results will be a healthier, safe beautiful garden for our families, neighborhood, and the environment.

Fall Garden

By agsite | October 11, 2009

Organic Vegetable gardening in containers is a garden idea most beginners can try this fall.  Vegetable gardening gives the satisfaction of gathering healthy good-tasting food and saving money from having your own edible garden.  Start planning today and plant your fall edible garden. Start by deciding what you would like to plant, cook and eat later for the minimal cost of seed.

Time is still favorable for a fall vegetable garden started from seed in most climates.  Vegetables such as:  beet greens, collards, kale, lettuce, mustard, peas, spinach, lettuce and greens can be grown from seeds.  Just imagine, growing your own tasty and nutritious salads from your own fall garden.  Smell that aroma, umm!

Fall is also a good time to plant trees, especially flowering fruit trees.  Not only are flowering fruit trees attractive and provide delicious fruit, but they also provide shade for your property and can contribute to reducing energy cost.

Regardless of the fall gardening idea you choose, gardening has benefits.  It releases stress as you nurture your garden; it can save you money, and contribute to healthy eating in serene attractive surroundings.

Fall Family Fun

By agsite | September 28, 2008

Get your family together and enjoy the fall outdoors.

One way to enjoy the fall together and making fond memories, is clearing the front and back yards of fallen leaves.

With this in mind, why not plan now how you will use your fallen leaves.  Will you mulch them into the lawn or place them in your garden, flower beds or around your trees for the winter.   By doing so, you will provide better protection for them during the winter months.  You can also add the leaves to your compost.

Now is the time to have fun working as a family.  The results will be family fun and a beautiful yard.  Don’t forget the camera or camcorder.  A family journal or scrapbook would be nice, too.
